Addax
Addax - $7,500
Native to North Africa this Antelope species have broad flat soles with strong dewclaws that aid them from sinking in soft sands. Addax have coats that varies in color according to the seasons. Winter months addax coats are a greyish-brown color extending over the back to their haunches with white legs and white hindquarters. During summer, their coat is a beautiful solid white color varying to a sandy blonde. Addax have a face marking of an X over their noses and a brown patch on their head. Both males and females have long, weakly ringed horns spiraling upwards in a gentle V shape. Male’s horns can average 28"-33" with large bulls reaching 38" in length. Males weight between 200-300lbs. Female’s weight 100-220lbs.
Aoudad
Aoudad - $3,500
Native to North Africa, Aoudad are also known as Barbary Sheep. Aoudad have a sandy brown to red coat that darkens as they mature while also developing long fringe hair from their neck to the forelegs known as chaps. Aoudad have thick horns that can curve outward, backwards then back inwards toward their body. The fairly smooth horns on a mature aoudad rams are extremely impressive. Mature Aoudad are up to 30" and trophy rams are 30"+. The Aoudad stand 30-40 inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh from 160-320 pounds.
Axis - Chital Deer
Axis - $4,500
Native to the Indian subcontinent, Axis are also known as Chital or spotted deer. This unique deer species is one of the most impressive animals on the ranch. They are a medium sized deer with crisp, white spots on a bright reddish-brown coat with a large solid white throat patch. Also, mature males will have a black stripe down their spine on the middle of their back. Axis is one of the most sought-after and best table fare in exotic game species. All sexes alike coat, only male axis are antlered. Male’s antlers are tall, graceful, and simple with typical antlers having three points on each side. Antler lengths typically measure from 28 to 32 inches with large bucks reaching an astonishing 36 inches. Axis are one of a kind in shedding their antlers as this can occur at different times of the year according to the time of the year they were born. This makes Axis the only deer where both hard-horned and velvet bucks exist simultaneously also know as winter and summer bucks. Axis deer are some of the most cautious-natured deer which makes them extremely challenging to hunt.
Blackbuck
Blackbuck - $3,500
Native to India and Pakistan, this antelope species is one of the smallest antelope species. Males on average are 29 - 33 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 50-120 pounds. Male blackbuck are born light brown or a tannish color. As they mature they become a two tone color variation being darker black on their backs in cold winter months. Dominant males upper body are typically a jet black with a sharp white contrast circling the eyes and a white underbelly. Only males grow ringed, corkscrew horns diverging upward in a tall V shape. Horns are measured straight taped from the base to the tip of horn with adult males measuring 16-18 inches. Big trophy blackbuck will be anywhere from 18-22 inches. Blackbuck were introduced in Texas around 1932 and have flourished. Their ability to run at a speed of 50 miles per hour make them hard for predators to hunt.
Black Hawaiian
Black Hawaiian - $3,000
Black Hawaiian sheep origins can be a little fuzzy and unclear. Black Hawaiian rams are part of a corsican breed with some that believe it’s a cross between a Mouflon and a Black hair sheep from Hawaii. Others will argue it to be a cross of a European Mouflan and Rambouillet or Churro Merino Sheep. These sheep are a majority beautiful all black body with white around their muzzles and horns that are usually black in color also. Their horns grow curls that flair outward. Most sheep are 30-34 inches with large trophy rams growing 36 inches or bigger. Black Hawaiians are pursued being one of the animals included in the Texas Ram Slam along with Texas Dall, Mouflan and Corsican rams.
Catalina
Catalina Goat - $1,500
Native to Spain, Catalina Goats are feral goat decedents brought from Santa Catalina Island by missionaries. Catalina have varying colors from brown, black, red and white and can be a majority of only one color. Catalina are mostly slick hair with males and females both having beards below their chin. A males horns rise fairly straight for several inches before spiraling horizontal for up to 3 curls. Catalina's horns can spread from 30 - 40 inches typically.
Corsican
Corsican - $3,000
Corsican sheep have originally been from the West Indies; however, they are a registered trade mark of a staple ranch here in Texas. Bred by Charles Schreiner III, they were used to grow enlarged horns to add to the hunting appeal of them. These sheep are colored with a majority brown body with strong black accents on neck, sides, and legs. They usually have a 3-inch to 8-inch beard that runs from their chin to the point of their chest. Horns circle and turn outward at the tips, typically completing a full curl or more. Horn lengths are 30-34 inches with large trophy rams growing 36 inches or bigger.
Fallow
Fallow - $6,000
Native to Europe this deer species varies widely with three different color variations. The common color for fallow is a chocolate but they can also be found in spotted and white. Their coat becomes darker and thicker in the winter, and the white spots can become more faint than summer spots. This deer species is easily identified by their large flat palm shaped antlers with numerous points as well as their visible larynx in males. Bucks are typically hard antlered mid to late August until late April or May. Male fallow can weight from 175-220 pounds in good conditions. Males can be expected to lose 20-50 pounds around October during the mating season also called the rut.
Gemsbok
Gemsbok - $7,500
Native to the Kalahari Desert, Gemsbok are the largest of all the oryx species. Males can weigh anywhere from 400 - 600 pounds with females weighing 220 – 500 pounds. They have a short muscular horse-like neck and shoulders with a short mane that reaches from their head back to their shoulders. Gemsbok have black patches and a long black tail. Gemsbok have a beautiful black and white face and leg markings makin these animals one of the most majestic animals on the ranch. Males and females are difficult to tell apart with both sexes having horns. Their horns are long and extend straight back and up from the head becoming wide at the tips. Female horns are more slender, slightly longer than the horns of males and are used to defend themselves along with their offspring from predators. Their horns are ringed at the bottom close to the head but smooth out as they extend towards the tips.
Jacob 4-Horn Sheep
Jacob 4-Horn - $3,000
Jacob 4-Horn sheep are one of the oldest breeds of sheep with antecedents found in Syria 3,000 years ago. The origin of Jacobs 4-Horn is unknown, however, it is actually referenced in the Bible. Jacob 4-Horn are a small, multihorned wooly-bodied sheep that typically carry four horns upon their slender triangular head. Most common is a pair on top of its head along with another pair just below them although they can have from as few as two or as many as six. Both male and female 4-horn are horned with males typically having larger and more impressive horns. Horn configuration can vary greatly, typically asymmetrical with the bottom horns being smaller. No two Jacob 4-Horn sheep are exactly alike from horns to their distinctive markings making them a popular hunt for even the most die-hard sheep hunter.
European Mouflan
European Mouflon - $4,250
European Mouflon were introduced around 7,000 years ago on the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia and Corsica. Mouflon sheep are believed to be the primary ancestor for all modern domestic sheep breeds. The European Mouflon is the westernmost and smallest sub-species of mouflon. They are a colorful sheep with coarse hair hiding in a wooly undercoat. Reddish-Brown in color with black-and-white legs; the ears, nose, belly and rump are white. Mature males will turn black on the lower neck and have a white saddle patch over their back. Mouflon have very well developed eyesight which are able to scan a wide arc without ever moving their head. Thick, ridged horns circle on each side of a male sheep’s head. Massive horns of a male usually completes only three-quarter circle in a purebred. Typical horn length is 20 to 29 inches with large trophy males being 30-35 inches. Male’s weight anywhere from 90 to 130 pounds on average.
Painted Desert

The painted desert sheep are a color variation of a Corsican sheep bred for hunting purposes. These sheep are multi colored more often than not being bi, tri, and even quad colored. They are one of the most striking sheep breed having a slick beautiful coat in spring and summer. During the winter painted deserts have a wooly undercoat. Painted Desert sheep have the same horn shape as the Corsican, and are known for growing trophy quality headgear. Horn lengths are 30-34 inches with large trophy rams growing 36 inches or bigger.
Red Deer

Native to much of Europe, Asia and parts of North Africa, Red deer or Red Stag are the fourth largest deer species in the world, only behind moose, elk, and sambar deer. Red Stag are a large reddish-brown deer with a large rust colored rump patch. Males will grow a neck ruff in the winter months. Red stag or hart deer have some of the most amazing antlers with most bulls typically having six or more points on each side. Some bulls will have all way up to twenty points just on one side! Bulls will scrape and shed off velvet around August and will then mate in the month of October. During the month of October, bulls will frequently roar to show dominance to other bulls. Stag will shed their antlers yearly anywhere from March through April. Red Stag weigh from 400-750 pounds depending on nutrition received during that year. Females are much smaller and will weight from 150-250 pounds.
Texas Dall Sheep
Texas Dall - $3,000
This hybrid sheep looks extremely similar to the Wild Alaskan Dall but have no relation. The color of the Texas Dall is a snowy white color with pink skin. This hybrid sheep originated at a ranch in Texas and is believed to be a cross between a wayward merino and mouflon ewes. Most trophy rams will grow a large beard that runs from the top of the neck down to the point of their chest. Horn lengths are 30-34 inches with large trophy rams growing 36 inches or bigger.
Watusi
Watusi - $5,500
Watusi cattle or Ankole-Watusi are native to Africa where they are often referred to as "Cattle of Kings" due to royalty owning them. Watusi can be numerous colors as spotted or solid but color is typically red. Watusi horns are some of the most impressive in the world not only for the length but for the extraordinary thickness they carry. Meat studies show watusi to be very low fat and have lower cholesterol than other commercial beef. The animal’s large horns are honeycombed with blood vessels that are used to thermo-regulate in hot temperatures. Blood flows through the large horns which is cooled by moving air in which it then flows back into body to help lower the animals body temperature. Watusi can weigh anywhere from 1200 to 1900 pounds.
White-Bearded Wildebeest
White-Bearded Wildebeest - $7,500
Native to Tanzania and Kenya, White-Bearded Wildebeest are known for the large migration in the Serengeti area. There are very few words to actually described the wildebeest, but one that does describe them is odd. The forequarters of an ox, the hindquarters of an antelope, and the mane and tail of a horse, they are one of the coolest looking animals at Big Country Exotics ranch. The head of a wildebeest is box-like and very large with broad muzzles and a roman nose. Both male and female white-bearded wildebeest have curving horns that are close together at the base but curve outward, inward, and slightly backwards. Mature males develop large rounded bosses at the base. The wildebeest is gray with darker vertical stripes that appear almost black from a distance. Both male and females weigh around 350 to 500 pounds when they are fully mature.
Grants Zebra
Grants Zebra - $6,500
Native to Eastern and Southern Africa, they are herd animals and the smallest subspecies of Plains Zebra. No animal in the animal kingdom has a more distinctive coat than a zebra. Each zebra’s stripes are as unique as fingerprints where no two are exactly alike. When zebra reach maturity their coat becomes shiny which dissipates over 70 percent of incoming heat, and some scientist believe the stripes help the animals withstand extreme solar radiation. The black and white stripes are a form of camouflage called disruptive coloration that breaks up the outline of the body making them difficult to see. Most zebra will weigh between 400-800 pounds.
